Urodynamic Testing
For those in need of Alpharetta urodynamic testing, ISIS OB/GYN offers a full range of in-office services, including HSG and SIS, performed in a relaxed and understanding manner. When incontinence or frequent urination interferes with your daily schedule, call us to find out just how much easier we can make your life by identifying the cause of your incontinence and your treatment options. Urodynamic tests evaluate the efficiency of your bladder, urethra (the tube that allows urine to pass outside the body), and sphincter muscles (electromyography) when storing and releasing urine.
Alpharetta Urodynamic Testing
Symptoms can vary from sudden, strong urges to urinate, leaking (involuntary loss of urine), to difficulty with starting a urine stream. Painful urination, recurrent urinary tract infections and problems with voiding completely are other frequent complaints. Testing measures how well your bladder functions and reveals abnormal contractions that cause leaking (difficulty starting a stream, keeping a steady stream going or completely emptying the bladder), and whether the trouble stems from infection, bladder muscle weakness or an obstruction of the bladder outflow.
Testing sometimes feels a bit intrusive. Your doctor or his or her assistant will need to ask questions, measure urine flow and listen or observe you as you void. Be assured that urodynamic testing at ISIS OB/GYN will always treat you with the dignity and respect you deserve. While these procedures are new and unusual to you, we perform these tests on a regular basis and do all we can to provide you with as much privacy as possible by withdrawing quietly when we can and by limiting the amount of people in the room to the least number possible. Oftentimes, much of the monitoring takes place on imaging screens in another room.
OBGYN Johns Creek & Alpharetta
For all needs in urodynamic testing, Alpharetta Isis OB/GYN employs a holistic approach, knowing the unfamiliar is oftentimes more frightening than the actual reality.
Tests vary, but most take about 30 minutes to complete. Using a small catheter (also called a transducer), your physician fills the bladder with a sterile warm water solution and may then perform any number of tests. A uroflowmeter toilet measures and graphs your flow rate as you void into a collection container and a urethral pressure profilometry monitoring to evaluate sphincter contraction and the amount of pressure on the bladder (cystometry), urethra, and rectum. Other tests include sonohystograms or fluoroscopy imaging to look closer at the bladder and bladder neck as it moves. Imaging with contrast medium and sound waves reveal size and shape of your urinary tract.
