Offering clinical guidance and reassurance, our mission is to make your birthing experience a meaningful encounter, doing everything possible to ensure that your wishes are accommodated. We encourage you to allow your natural instinct to take over, entering or exiting the tub as you wish. We do not restrict food or drink, or interfere with your choice of position, and if you desire, we encourage family members and/or friends to be a part of this experience with you.
Alpharetta Waterbirth Procedures
A form of hydrotherapy, ISIS OB/GYN, Alpharetta waterbirth procedures take place in a tub and may be used during the first stage of labor or throughout the entire labor/delivery experience. Waterbirth promotes relaxation during the birth process as the anti-gravity nature of water relieves pressure by easing labor pains and stretching the perineum, decreasing the risk of skin tears. Many people believe labor is shortened. It is also effective in relieving lower backpressure, reducing pain, as well as promoting better contractions, blood circulation, and oxygenation for the fetus.
Emory & North Fulton Midwife
Your birth experience is overseen our midwife, who is trained in water birth procedures. Alpharetta ISIS OB/GYN believes in allowing the natural unhurried birth process to set the pace and discreetly monitors mother and child, providing immediate assistance as needed. She monitors baby's heartbeat and movements and offers suggestions as labor progresses. Critics point to risk of infection, but it is a non-issue, since birthing tubs are disinfected according to hospital standards between uses. Some bacteria, regardless of birthing method, exists in every birthing.
Infant drowning is oftentimes a concern of others who may try to dissuade your decision, but fears are unfounded, since the placenta provides the infant with oxygen and of course, baby does not take his or her first breath until skin feels cooler air (water temperature is around 97º); as long as there is complete submersion and the head is lifted out of the water before the body, there is no danger. However, mother/child well-being is always our main concern, so the infant is gently lifted up, head first, immediately after birth, where he or she lies in mother's arms, gently floating on the water's surface for a calm transition from womb to world.
